born to a family of late-stage hippies in the mountains of western north carolina, bea wainwright grew up in a home buzzing with creative energy. coming from this background, in a way her her moving to new york to study english literature at fordham was a kind of rebellion. unfortunately for her, it didn't take: after being "discovered" her sophomore year, she dropped out to start a short-lived but moderately successful modeling career. when her opportunities dried up a few years later, she worked at a cousin's bookstore while growing her social media following. channeling her creativity into what for her was a new medium, she became one of the first stars of what became known as booktube.

since then, her occasionally chaotic social media presence has only grown in size and the subjects she tackles. although she is on multiple platforms, youtube remains her bread and butter. these days, her long-form videos cover everything from book and movie reviews to game plays to meal prep to "get ready with me" videos to deep dives into topics that interest her, including true crime and art history. her characteristic style involves text, photos, and memes overlaying her videos as dry "commentary" on whatever she says.

as soon as lockdown ended, bea relocated to los angeles. while the move was ostensibly to pursue other opportunities in the entertainment industry, in reality, bea was eager to leave behind both a tough breakup and an increasingly invasive fanbase.
